Serendipity Day

Today We Farm participated in Serendipity Day at the Alexander Graham Bell School in Wrigleyville. Serendipity Day is a modern day equivalent to a field day, but instead classes attended three workshops ranging from yoga to healthy cooking. With help from the Ag. team the education dream team created a workshop for second graders on backyard gardening. We did a hands on presentation about planting and compost and then the children created their own biodegradable seed pot out of newspaper and planted their own vegetable seeds. The day was enjoyed by all and it was so rewarding to see the children's enthusiasm about their own "garden to go".

  1. Wow, this sounds like a great day! Did any of the students have any gardening experience? Tell me more about your hands-on approach--what did you do? What was your part/contribution? Will there be any follow-up with the school and/or the kids to see if any of your workshops sunk in? Is that a picture you took of the workshop?
